OPENING UP THE BACK GARDEN WITH FRENCH DOORS
This is a job in one of the many wonderful terracotta-bricked terraces in Jesmond, Newcastle, where large rooms and high ceilings predominate. The rear garden area was a little isolated with access only through the kitchen door and it was not very visible from the rear ground-floor sliding sash window, tucked in the far corner of the room.
We removed the old wooden sash window and knocked out the bricks below to install a pair of timber French doors with a top-light above. This has brought more light into the room and opened up the garden and the view from inside the room.
Inside we finished the doors off with a hardwood inner threshold and colour-matched timber trims to the sides and head of the reveal. Outside the bricks were squared off and re-pointed.
