Barn Conversion in Northumberland, near Newcastle-upon-Tyne
A barn conversion project near Newcastle and the colours of the stonework are perfectly complemented by the external paint finish of our doors - in this case it was Farrow & Ball card Room Green.
This door is well protected from the elements by the deep reveal of the really thick barn walls so engineered Redwood timber is perfectly fine for the door. In a more exposed location we would consider Grandis or Meranti hardwood or even Accoya timber.
As with all our doors, high-security multi-point locking is standard as well as fully adjustable security hinges. In this case we have paired the door with a 'From the Anvil' black Twist handle which has a lovely 'rustic' look and works very well in this rural setting.
Made-to-measure wooden door with gothic arched bar detail
Not a good photo unfortunately but this installation in Northumberland in the summer of 2016 shows a lovely bar detail, made to replicate the original door. The draught-proof letter-plate and high security locking system plus the high level of insulation offered by this door mean that the new installation is substantially warmer than the old door.
Rural Northumberland - Glazed Screens And French Doors With Beak-proof Beads!
One of the joys of living in the country if the profusion of wildlife passing through your garden. Occasionally this can present a challenge to the home owner and in this case the problem animals were pheasants. For reasons best known to themselves, the pheasants in our clients garden had taken to pecking at the timber beads at the bottom of their windows and doors. Whether attacking their own reflection or simply investigating for bugs we don't know but the clear message in specifying replacements was protection from avian attack!
Our brief was a straightforward like-for-like replacement with new high-performance and highly insulating double-glazed timber screens and hardwood fully-glazed French doors. We had to maximise the glass area to maintain the wonderful views over rolling Northumberland farmland whilst installing very secure and very weather-proof wooden doors. To maintain the rustic feel to the installation we fitted hand-forged black 'Twist' handles to the doors and finished everything in Gardenia, a colour which works very well with sandstone of various hues.
The pheasant-protection came in the form of profiled aluminium bottom beads which we had specially painted to match the windows and doors.
