Timber Windows

WHAT TYPES OF WOOD ARE BEST FOR CASEMENT WINDOWS?

Our timber windows are available in FSC certified engineered Redwood, Red Grandis (hardwood) and Accoya – in some circumstances we may also use a combination of these timber types. All three timber options are engineered with laminated sections for increased strength and to reduce warping or twisting. Where necessary we can also offer engineered European Oak.

Redwood is Class 4 timber and requires a preservative to be applied as part of the painting process, Grandis is in the Class 3 group and Accoya is Class 1 – the most durable. Redwood and Accoya are ideal for painted, opaque, finishes and Grandis suits translucent stains where the timber is visible through the applied finish.

The different types come with different guarantees against rot and fungal infestation with Redwood and Grandis having a 30-year guarantees and Accoya 50-years – the paint coating guarantees are also longer on Accoya than Redwood or Grandis.

Ultimately personal preference and budget will always play a part in the decision-making process. We are proud and confident in all of our offerings and can even tailor the specification to suit.
