Traditional Box Sash Windows in Cumbria
The small villages nestling between Carlisle and the Pennines in the north-east of Cumbria contain a wide range of architectural styles and ages. This installation of box sash windows was at a really nice house in just such a village, commanding spectacular views of the Lake District fells in the distance.

The old sash windows were draughty, impossible to open and prone to excessive condensation throughout the winter. This, in-turn was making them mouldy on the lower timber rails.

Some of the windows were absolutely fine and these have been left in place but most of the ground floor and half of the upstairs sash windows were changed. We installed our traditional sash windows complete with brass pulleys and lead weights to re-create the full character of windows in a property that has always been rather grand.
