A GUIDE TO BUYING NEW TIMBER WINDOWS

A step by step guide to the process of buying new windows

"...a very easy company to deal with, no hard selling, and excellent service."
Guide to buying new windows
  1. Initial enquiry

Customers contact us either directly by phone on 0845 519 4069 or via the contact us page on the website. You can request a call-back at a specific time if you prefer. We will then arrange a convenient time to visit your property to discuss your requirements.

  2. We visit the property

Some people know exactly what they are looking for whilst others prefer to be guided through the options before reaching a decision. Although we are primarily there in 'listening mode' we are happy to give advice on product design if you need it. Having established the type of thing that you are looking for we will measure up the windows and doors, double-check the specification, discuss the merits of any alternative options and then answer any questions that you might have about the products and our services.

We DON'T do pressure sales, there are no 'special offers' or 'regional manager's discounts' to beguile you with, just an honest conversation about what we can do.

  3. Written quotation

Back in the office we will prepare your quotation which can be either emailed or posted to you. Apart from a follow-up call to ensure that you have received the quotation, we leave the next step to you. No rush, no hassle and we won’t be back on the phone trying to sell you something else!

  4. Reference visit

Once a quotation has been sent out, we are happy to arrange a visit to a similar installation if you wish. We carry sample windows with us of course and lots of pictures of previous installations but sometimes there is no substitute for seeing the windows and doors installed in a real home. You also get the chance to talk to one of our previous customers about their experience of working with Blackthorn Timber Windows. One of the pleasures of our work is the customer feedback we get and the offers to allow us to bring prospective customers to see their new windows and doors. We call this our "Rolling Referral Programme".

  5. Moving ahead with the project

    Measuring for new windows

Once a customer has contacted us to accept a quotation, we arrange for a detailed measure to be carried out. This is a crucial stage in making windows that look absolutely right for the property so we don't rush it.

When we survey the property, we are not just measuring up but also considering how best to install the timber windows and doors to minimise the impact on your home. We take into account the condition of existing stone, brick, timber and plaster-work, and how to deal with wires and cables.

When this has been done we will discuss the survey findings with you, explain how the timber windows and doors will be installed and agree how you wish us to finish off the job.

Manufacturing lead-times are typically 7-weeks from the measure but this can vary a little either way.

  6. Installation

"Your workmen are a credit to you and your firm - wish all workmen were like them!"

We aim to install the new windows and doors as soon as possible after they have completed manufacture, commensurate with our customers' availability. Some people like to be at the property throughout the installation, others come and go during the day whilst in some cases our installers will be given a key, let themselves in and never actually meet our customers. We are happy to work with all of these arrangements.

    Installing timber windows

Our installation teams are all joiners and highly experienced window fitters. They work tidily and efficiently, one room at a time and will spend as much time on the finishing details inside and out as they do in removing and replacing the old window. They pride themselves on an eye for detail - customer satisfaction is their objective and we encourage customer feedback to help us to keep on improving.

When the installation is complete we will 'walk the job' with you to ensure that you are happy with every element of our supply and only then will we ask you to pay the balance.

Replacing windows Our installers are all joiners with many years’ of window and door installation experience behind them. They will spend as much time on the finishing details around the window as they do in removing and replacing the old window and pride themselves on an eye for detail. They work in a clean and tidy way, one room at a time.

  7. After sales support

Our customers are our greatest asset in spreading the word about our products and the service that we deliver. As such we view every sale as the start of a long-term commitment to them.

If at any time after that there is a problem, we will respond positively and attend to it at the earliest opportunity.
