TIMBER WINDOWS MORPETH
Blackthorn Timber Windows supply and install timber windows within the Morpeth area, and we offer the most comprehensive range of wooden windows in quality softwood or hardwood.
We provide a wealth of information on our website about timber windows, but we'd be happy to visit your home or arrange a call-back.
We have a no pressure approach to meeting our customers and we always send written quotations following a visit. We understand that these projects sometimes take a while to get off the ground and we know that our customers don't want to be hassled so we simply send the quotation and wait. Some customers come back within a week, others take a month or even a year and that's fine.
Below you'll find a selection of work we have undertaken in the Morpeth area, supplying and fitting timber windows.
Happy Cats Approve of New Wooden Windows
This installation in Morpeth, Northumberland close to Newcastle, called for replacement timber casement windows to be made with cat-flaps through the double-glazed units. Most glazing suppliers shy away from manufacturing units with holes in them these days but we were able to find a relatively local supplier.
Having installed the new windows (part of a larger job) it took the cats no time at all to investigate and then make use of their new access into and out of their favourite sunbathing spot.
Timber Sash Windows with 'Heritage' Double Glazing
This is the River Wansbeck in the centre of Morpeth, Northumberland, as seen from a really nice house perched well above it. The home owners told us that they have seen otters from this window despite being virtually in the town centre.
These are Slimline Sash windows from our Heritage range - glazed with special narrow double-glazed units in order to allow the frames to be as narrow (outside-to-inside) as the original windows.
With windows tucked behind stone reveals like this and forming a 3-section bay, there is little opportunity to fit a standard double-glazed sash window as the increased frame depth means the frames would have to be made smaller. The solution is to use the narrower Heritage glazing units.
In all other respects the Heritage sash windows are the same as the standard double-glazed sash windows - double weather-seals all round, sash locks, a choice of fastener and available in engineered Redwood or hardwood, all factory finished in a colour of the customers' choice.
Stormproof Casements With Georgian Bars Near Morpeth, Northumberland
The brief here was to replace the old single glazed windows with new double-glazed casements that matched the existing conservatory. The windows are high-performance lipped casements which have a multi-point espagnolette locking system and a double weather-seal. This window was designed to be the best available in the UK market by surpassing by over 50% the British Standards for weather-performance and security performance.
The colour is Gardenia which matches the prominent pointing around the red bricks. Gardenia is a very flexible colour and the most popular finish that we supply. It is just off-white with a hint of cream. In the late-afternoon it takes on a much warmer appearance whilst inside the house the colour is neutral enough to go with most colour schemes.
Traditional Timber Sash Windows near Morpeth, Northumberland
This project was in a lovely stone terrace in the village of Felton, just north of Morpeth, Northumberland. Our customer needed a new traditional sash window in the front bedroom and wanted to replace the existing wooden casement windows in the front room. These were single-glazed and covered with grey aluminium secondary glazing making them unattractive inside and hard to open.
After...
Initially we looked at new timber casement windows but decided that both aesthetically and practically, timber sash windows would be much better. Because the sash window slides vertically and does not open outwards, we were able to tuck more of the frame behind the stone mullions, maximising the amount of glass and natural light entering the room.
Our time-served joiners who carry out our installations were then able to adjust the timber panelling inside and even made a new section of the wooden shutters for the bedroom. The result is a far more traditional look to the property with real timber joinery combined with modern double-glazing and draught-proofing.
