A great example of replacement timber windows in a Listed Building in Northumberland. These beautiful sliding sash windows are hung on weights and pulleys and glazed with slim heritage style double glazing using a traditional putty method with solid through-bars.
A River View from a New Bay Window
This is a good example of why we install windows and doors and why we don't take photographs for a living!
Just out of shot on the right is a delightful stretch of the River Wansbeck on which all manner of wildlife lives, including kingfishers and otters. Having installed Sliding Sash windows to the old part of the property our customer invited us back for Phase 2 at the rear. This included creating a brand new projecting square bay window giving views up and down the river.
Rural Re-development in Northumberland
Sometimes the age and character of a property demands a window style with timber glazing bars dividing the glass into multiple panes but when the windows are also small and there is a fantastic view, glazing bars might get in the way.
This shows an attractive compromise between the two. The glazing bar detain on these Flush Casement windows adds detail and interest whilst not crowding the glass area or obstructing the view.
New Timber Windows In Northumberland
A tranquil resting place. Early December sunlight shines softly onto our newly-installed windows in Northumberland, between Morpeth and Ponteland. These are flush casement windows designed to recall the proportions of sash windows but with the functionality of top-hung outward-opening windows. Upstairs windows were identical appearance but hung on reversible hinges allowing the windows to be cleaned from inside. Reversible casement windows also provide an excellent means of egress should the need to climb through the window ever arise.
The windows were made with a wide horizontal glazing bar to represent a sash window meeting rail and a narrow vertical bar. The colour is Normandy Gray which blends superbly with the cream render of the house. December light is often very blue which is why the true colour is washed out from the rear window photograph.
Traditional Timber Sash Windows in Northumberland
Late afternoon sun gives a deceptively warm glow to the weathered sandstone of this cottage in rural Northumberland. We installed 3 timber sash windows and a single top-hung timber casement window complete with narrow glazing bars at this quiet location north of Morpeth.
The traditional appearance of the property was maintained by replicating the timber width around the window and keeping the glazing bars to the same overall size as before.
Double Glazed Timber Sash Windows in Northumberland
With views down the Tyne Valley, this beautiful cottage near Haydon Bridge, Northumberland now has the added benefit of beautiful timber sash windows and French doors.
Blackthorn Timber Windows has carried out two installations to this property - initially the timber sash windows on the front elevation were installed and then another sash window and a pair of timber French doors to the rear.
The client has already noted the benefits of the excellent weather-protection and draught-proofing on the timber sash windows, and despite their exposed location they have been kept warm during some very stormy weather.

Large Traditional Sliding Sash Timber Windows in Northumberland
This was one of our favourite installations in recent years. A spacious house in the country alongside a tumbling river and surrounded by woodland. It was beautifully sunny on this day but on our first visit, in the depths of winter, the house was so cold that you could see your breath in some rooms! The multiple large sliding sash windows were just leaking heat on every elevation.
Our job was to replace the windows with energy efficient double-glazed timber sash windows without changing the look of the house at all. That meant, tucking the windows behind the stonework by the same amount as before, finishing the insides with colour-matched moulded timber trims and pointing the outside with a lime-rich mortar to blend in with the rest of the stonework.
We installed our Traditional Sash window throughout, painted in Gardenia and with quality brass fasteners and hook lifts. The results speak for themselves.

These stormproof casement windows were manufactured in engineered redwood timber and finished in a pale cream Gardenia which perfectly matches the stone.
By fitting a dummy sash to the centre deadlight we were able to keep the window looking balanced with equal sight-lines throughout.
