Timber Windows

Balance and harmony were the requirements here for a barn conversion around 3-sides of a courtyard near Durham. The existing windows offered poor insulation but allowed plenty of light into the rooms and this feature had to be retained. We were able to line all of the sight-lines through despite the mix of transoms and mid-rails plus fixed and opening sashes.

All of the opening sashes have high security locking and stainless steel friction stay hinges, the doors have fully adjustable security hinges and a German-made security locking system. Adding the finishing touches were the hand-forged door handles in Gothic style plus locking black 'peardrop' handles. To maximise the thermal insulation we opted for low-emissivity glass with argon gas and black warm-edge spacer bar.
